"the greatest"?

A CD store here screwed up and I was able to buy the album on Saturday.
I have to say that I REALLY want to like it, but it's just not really how I've ever imagined Cat Power. There just doesn't seem to be the same emotion and uniqueness that got me into her music originally. Frankly, some of it just sounds like Bonnie Rait and there are a couple of tracks that I just outright don't like.
There are also some things that are just odd. For instance, on the end of the first track and beginning of the second track, they attempted to merge the two by having both drum beats going at the same time. But the respective beats are dissimilar enough to totally throw you off, and it makes both tracks sound confused.
"Willie" and "Love and Communication" are both very good songs. "Moon" and "Hate" are strikingly different, and actually sound much more like Cat Power with Chan obviously on guitar, but both sound like they were recorded in a different studio and should be on a different album.
Also, I'm not sure if this is the case with other CDs, but mine came with an extra, untitled track not listed on the case.

I'll listen to it more and see if I can warm up to it. Just wanted to advise any other excited fans who may be expecting a continuation of her previous work.

I very much agree, though I'd rather not.

The word "tepid" comes to mind.

I too am trying to give it more listen. See if there's something hiding under there.
