Another day, another fifth of Scotch.

And that wasn’t all. Chan Marshall said her mornings began with a minibar’s worth of Jack Daniel’s, Glenlivet and Crown Royal. Mini bottles depleted, this indie singer-songwriter, known as Cat Power, would nurse a bottle of Scotch over the course of the day. On nights she performed, she took the antianxiety drug Xanax.

By the time she would weave onstage, beer in one hand, cigarette in the other, Ms. Marshall, 34, was wasted. And it showed. It would seem that every fan has a Cat Power concert story: the time she mooned the audience, cursed out techies, talked to a squirrel (outdoors), played three chords and changed her mind (song after song) or played fragments of a few songs and then told everyone to get out, even encouraging fans to sue her.

That was the old Chan Marshall.

The new Chan Marshall is, by most accounts, significantly improved, as critics have widely noted this year. Reviewing one of Cat Power’s performances at Town Hall in June, Jon Pareles of The New York Times wrote, “To see her so comfortable onstage was no small surprise to her longtime fans,” and Time Out New York called the shows “triumphant, in the classic show-biz sense.”
I have to say that I REALLY want to like it, but it's just not really how I've ever imagined Cat Power. There just doesn't seem to be the same emotion and uniqueness that got me into her music originally. Frankly, some of it just sounds like Bonnie Rait and there are a couple of tracks that I just outright don't like.
There are also some things that are just odd. For instance, on the end of the first track and beginning of the second track, they attempted to merge the two by having both drum beats going at the same time. But the respective beats are dissimilar enough to totally throw you off, and it makes both tracks sound confused.
"Willie" and "Love and Communication" are both very good songs. "Moon" and "Hate" are strikingly different, and actually sound much more like Cat Power with Chan obviously on guitar, but both sound like they were recorded in a different studio and should be on a different album.
Also, I'm not sure if this is the case with other CDs, but mine came with an extra, untitled track not listed on the case.

I'll listen to it more and see if I can warm up to it. Just wanted to advise any other excited fans who may be expecting a continuation of her previous work.

I live in Tucson and am quite determined to see Chan play on the 22nd in Los Angeles.
However, I am also determined to avoid the hefty Ticketmaster "convenience fees" which, in this case, amount to $7.50 per ticket. Not only that, but the outlets here aren't selling them and they must be purchased online and mailed.
Now, since I can't drive to the theater box office myself, is there a super-kind LA area resident that would be willing to purchase them there (two) and then mail them to me?
Of course, a personal check for the cost of the tickets and postage would be sent in response. And, in the envelope, you would also receive a some sort of extra-special gift.

How could you pass up an offer like this?
PM if willing/available.
There are some indie rock tracks including Beulah, Built to Spill, Cat Power, Clem Snide, Elliot Smith, Modest Mouse, Pavement, Pixies, Radiohead, Ranier Maria and Yo La Tengo.

We broadcast at 32kbs (with FM radio quality), and we're dial-up friendly. (In fact, I listen on dial-up with very little rebuffering.)
